The information your content is about must be relevant, engaging, and insightful. Don’t use any old school SEO strategies such as keyword stuffing. Google penalizes these old SEO practices.
Not tracking your results
The work doesn’t end after creating content and launching campaigns. You will have to measure all your website results to know your ROI and understand what to improve. Google Analytics is a MUST for every website. Make sure the money and effort you spend on digital marketing campaigns are worth it. If you’re running a campaign on several platforms for a specific landing page, you can use the Google URL builder and create two custom URLs to track how many people ended up on your site from each platform.
Not optimizing your ads
Using Google Adwords or social media ads is a great way to reach out to more customers but if you only just set them up without tweaking and A/B testing to optimize the ads, you will miss out on leads and waste your money. As mentioned above, track the results to improve your efforts. You will get an understanding of what people search for and interact with.
Your site is not mobile friendly
Mobile is becoming a dominant digital platform and represents 65% of internet users. Make sure your website is responsive and compatible with all mobile devices. Google ranks mobile friendly websites higher in the search results. Test if your site is mobile friendly at https://search.google.com/search-console/mobile-friendly.
Having unrealistic expectations
Unless your post goes viral, you’ll likely have to use paid advertising to promote your ads. Social media campaigns usually have a short turnaround but pay-per-click campaigns can take about 4 to 6 weeks before they deliver any results. Likewise, SEO strategies can take as much as 6 months to up to a year. Remember, think of digital marketing as a marathon, not a sprint!
